Welcome to 2nd Grade!
Teacher: Lois Gatdula
In 2nd grade, students adjust to the more rigorous learning environment they encountered in 1st grade. Writing, reading, and math skills are practiced in more complex and comprehensive ways. In addition to bettering themselves in these skills, second graders at Trinity Christian School also spend time learning and taking lessons from the Bible to apply to their own lives. Students also participate in weekly activities such as Physical Education, Spanish, and Computers.
I have had the privilege of being raised in a Christian home. Both of my parents co-pastored the church that I had attended growing up. With many children my age and a lot of opportunity for me and my family to be active in ministry throughout the week, the church was very much an extension of my home. Being involved in a godly community and having accountability were always very natural to me. My parents also enrolled me and my two older brothers in private Christian schools for most of my life starting from kindergarten. I strongly believe that, by the grace of God, starting from the home, my family has been a huge influence in helping strengthen my love for God until this day.
This year at Trinity Christian will be my first year as a teacher. Before coming here, I worked at the Los Angeles and Long Beach Unified School districts as a paraprofessional and a substitute teacher for 6 years, collectively. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and have a multiple subject credential in progress at California State University, Long Beach.
Aside from teaching all the lovely second graders here at Trinity, I enjoy playing music, game night, boogie boarding at the beach, and trying new foods to eat. Seeing God’s goodness in the every day and simple things in my local community makes me even more appreciative and in awe of what He’s doing globally, especially whenever I visit my home in the Philippines. One of my favorite Bible verses is found in Jeremiah 29:11, “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.’”
